16.06.2015, Geneva The Social Change through Art Forum brought artists, scientists, educators, students and development professionals together to observe, discuss and reflect on the transformational power of art.
An out-of-curriculum activity, the Forum came to life thanks to the efforts of five passionate and initiative students from the International Organizations MBA program of the University of Geneva.
The Forum was organized around three pillars: Education, Human Rights and Tolerance. Industry leaders were presenting their expertise on why peace should be part of the curriculum; how filmmaking could teach empathy; why art is a more effective way to stimulate the development of children with special needs and what exactly is the power of art for social advancement? Along with the extremely engaging topics discussed by sector specialists, there were interactive workshops on stress reduction through art, science through art and diversity in a team.
The space in Impact Hub was used in a very thoughtful and creative way. A selection ofsome of the best works of BANKSY, a world famous street artist, were exhibited together with those of COMBO, who came from Paris especially for Social Change through Art Forum. He shared his affecting experiences on how he manages to change and influence people’s perceptions for a more inclusive and tolerant world. Additionally, everybody had the chance to express their own feelings about tolerance and human rights on a piece of paper creating two colourful walls of ideas. Paint – your – world with watercolors was also an artistic approach to stimulate the expression of everybody’s inner world. The creativity and positive vibes of the forum were felt throughout the event, with both speakers and audience actively exchanging thoughts and experiences. Live music, mojitos and delicious burritos, provided in the spirit of the forum, further stimulated the exchange of ideas in the later hours of the event.
Thanks to the forum and COMBO, Geneva now has a permanent gift that everybody can see, reflect and act upon – a masterpiece graffiti right behind the train station with a message that perfectly corresponds to the slogan of the forum ‘Art brings ideas to life’.
